SSC Napoli is opening its 100th anniversary season, called Pe’ cient’anne, with a range of events throughout the year that honour the past and look toward the future. The symbolic founding date falls on 1 August 1926, which was collectively chosen by the Azzurri people, while fully aware that the city’s football roots run much deeper.
The origins of football in Naples date back to the early experiences of the late 1800s and include the Naples Cricket & Foot-Ball Club, founded in 1906, and the Unione Sportiva Internazionale Napoli, which was established in 1911 by a group of foreign members of the original club. Following the merger of the two clubs, the Foot-Ball Club Internazionale-Naples was founded in 1922. During the assembly of 25 August 1926, its name was changed to Associazione Calcio Napoli, the club that in 1964 became Societa Sportiva Calcio Napoli, the name it has maintained to this day.
The 100th anniversary comes at a special time for SSC Napoli and the city. The club’s achievements in recent years, with the footage of their league title wins that have been seen all over the world, are combined with new international attention towards Naples, its cultural identity and ability to combine both popular memory and the present. It is what we call the Napoli Momentum: an energy that grew over time, that today more than ever shows the world what Napoli is truly all about.
To celebrate this new chapter, the Corsiero del Sole (Steed of the Sun) will once again be a part of the club’s visual ecosystem, as it is the very first symbol of the club as well as an ancient symbol of the city, an image that conveys the great passion of the people of Naples.
The journey will begin on 6 July with the presentation aboard the MSC World Europa, of the 2026/27 Home shirt, which captures the very spirit of this 100th anniversary. On 10 July we will also launch the season ticket campaign and, throughout pre-season, we will also unveil Napoli’s Away shirt and Third shirt.
In Dimaro and Castel di Sangro, Napoli fans will be able to witness the club’s history through special installations set up at the Fan Village. The initiatives will be realised together with Momenti Azzurri, SSC Napoli’s Official Memorabilia Partner, which will help tell the story of Napoli’s 100 years of history. The journey will also continue with in-depth events throughout the season.
The club and the city will celebrate on 1 August with a great event in the heart of Naples. Napoli fans will be at the centre of these celebrations together with some club legends, who throughout the year will take part in some events to celebrate the anniversary.
The 100th anniversary will then continue in the subsequent months also outside the city, with two international events dedicated to the people of Naples and Napoli fans around the world.
In autumn there will be the official presentation of the film that will bring SSC Napoli’s long journey, from its beginnings to the present day, to the big screen for the very first time.
The programme will also include a prestigious partnership with Italian encyclopaedic institute and publishing house Treccani, the club’s cultural partner for the 100th anniversary. The encyclopaedic institute, which celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2025, will dedicate one of its publications to a football club for the very first time in its history.
From Naples to the world, from the pitch to memories of the past, the 100th anniversary will bring together the club, the city and everyone who, for generations, has made passion for Napoli an invaluable heritage.
