Napoli must do everything they can to return to winning ways against Bologna – even if it means playing badly. That was the view of Massimiliano Allegri as he spoke to the media ahead of Sunday's Serie A clash at the Stadio Maradona. The coach stressed that after playing well in their last three matches but having nothing to show for it Napoli now need to prioritise points.
“We have this opportunity to start winning at home and there's not much to say – we just have to go out there, play our football and get the three points. Bologna are a well-drilled side with some skilful players but we really need a result tomorrow.
“It's a game in which we have a big responsibility to improve our league position. There's only one way for us to pick ourselves up and it's down to us to get back on the right track. We've lost three on the bounce to three tough opponents – our good performances weren't enough so we need to add another layer to our game.
“We must improve at both ends of the pitch and show more technical quality – not just for short spells of the game. The team is very much alive sp we shouldn't see everything as negative. You get moments like this in a season. We must be brave and confident and start knocking out results.
“We have a lot of respect for Bologna and we know it's going to be a long game. We need to do the right things to get the win.
“I believe in the quality of this team but, as I said earlier, if after three good performances against Como, Inter and Arsenal, we've come away empty-handed, it means we need to do better.
“Tomorrow the result is more important than the performance. This one against Bologna and the next against Fiorentina are the two most difficult and most important matches for us to address our league position.”
