Napoli draw at the Franchi
Napoli drew 1-1 with Fiorentina. The Azzurri took the lead with a brilliant volley by Billy Gilmour in the 23rd minute. At the start of the second half, Fiorentina equalised with a right-footed shot by Alex Jimenez. The two teams then fought hard to take the lead and secure the win, but the score in the end was 1-1.
Coach Massimiliano Allegri had this to say about the game:
“Unfortunately, we weren’t clinical when we needed to be, especially when attacking. We had many goal-scoring chances, but we’re still not sharp and ruthless in the penalty area.
“Today we played against a Fiorentina side that was in good form, but we can’t be happy with this draw after our performance. We need to review what we did and understand that we need to grow above all in terms of determination and finishing.”
Here are Billy Gilmour’s comments:
“One point in Florence is not bad, but we wanted and could’ve won. After they equalised, we had some chances to score and we’re of course disappointed.
“After I scored, I hugged [Marco] Landucci and the others on the bench because we’d carried out a play that we’d prepared in training. Unfortunately, we didn’t secure all three points, but the team played a good game and we can still grow after the international break.”
