Napoli draw with Roma at the Maradona

Napoli drew with Roma at the Maradona after an exciting, hard-fought game, full of chances and action. Just before the 30-minute mark, Napoli took the lead with a spectacular bicycle kick by Frank Zambo Anguissa. At the start of the second half, Scott McTominay made it 2-0 with a header from a Matteo Politano cross. Roma responded and first pulled one back through Matias Soule and then Leonardo Balerdi drew Roma level. Napoli restored their lead as McTominay took a right-footed shot and scored in the 83rd minute. Then, close to the 90-minute mark, Balerdi found the back of the net once again, setting the final score at 3-3.

Here is what coach Massimiliano Allegri had to say:

“It was a great game and it was very intense. However, on some occasions we should’ve done better and defended more effectively. Ever since the season began, we’ve let our lead slip too many times, and tonight we’ve dropped two points.

“Of course, the lads need to be happy because they’ve played a very good game. We failed to make it 3-0 and when you don’t score, the game changes.

“Unfortunately, we failed to grab all three points, but our performance was a good one overall. It’s a shame because we could’ve won, but we didn’t.”

On being sent off:

“I didn’t say anything in particular. The fourth official decided to give me a red card and that means that I’ll refrain from even making a simple comment.”

Frank Zambo Anguissa scored the opener with a brilliant bicycle kick:

“It’s a real shame that we were unable to secure all three points because we deserved them. When the score was 2-0 and when we scored the 3-2 goal, we should’ve prevented them from scoring.

“Unfortunately, it didn’t go our way, but we must congratulate Roma on fighting back.

“We must focus on the fact that we put in a good performance and stay positive for the rest of the season.

“We’re all focused and we’re growing. We know what we can achieve and we know that we can improve by keeping up the good work.”
