The Azzurri forward spoke to the media on the eve of Napoli’s Champions League match
“We’re the only ones who can drag ourselves out of this difficult period. We need to push beyond our limits, go out there and give our absolute best.” Matteo Politano spoke at the press conference on the eve of our Matchday 4 Champions League match against Porto.
“We’ve got a tough match ahead of us. We’re missing some key players, but we can’t use that as an excuse. We must go out there and give everything, as this is a crucial match for us.
“Porto are a top side - they attack in numbers and move the ball around really well. There will be moments when we’ll need to defend strongly before unleashing our own quality in the attacking phase.
“We’ll need to be especially mindful of our defensive work, as we’ve let in too many goals relative to our overall performance levels. When we concede, the responsibility lies with the entire team, not just the guys at the back.
“Right now, we’re fragile as a team. We’re lacking some of the ruthlessness we had in seasons gone by. We’ve got to stick together - the coaching staff and we players - to get a result, starting tomorrow.
“We’ve got to focus on the here and now. Unfortunately, the past is in the past. I’ve won a lot with this team, alongside my team-mates who are currently in the squad, but we must keep giving our all and proving our worth on the pitch every single time we go out there and play.”
