The Golden Collars for Sporting Merit ceremony – the most important award of the Italian National Olympic Committee – was held on Monday morning in Rome at the Giulio Onesti Olympic Training Centre. CONI awarded the Golden Collar for Sporting Merit to SSC Napoli, represented on the occasion by its president, Aurelio De Laurentiis. Under his management, Napoli has experienced over 20 years of constant growth, culminating in two league-title wins and a steady presence in European competitions, covering nearly a quarter of Azzurri history.
SSC Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis had this to say: “I am making a film on the club’s 100 years of passion and it’s currently in the post-production phase. Anything is possible in Naples. In the 1700s, Naples was the queen of Europe. Now I’m delighted to see that things are changing. We’ve all worked hard to recover. This award is the achievement of the entire club that, for 100 years, has been able to grow and be a symbol for our children to look up to. I remember that when I first arrived at the club, children in Naples often supported other teams. Thanks to us, millions of them once again support Napoli and our colours, which are incidentally the same as the sea, the sky and the Italian national team.”
