Allegri press conference ahead of Inter clash
“Inter are the favourites to win the league title, but it’s only matchday three. We mustn’t live by highs and lows. Tomorrow we’ll give it everything we’ve got, but it’s not a decisive match.”
Massimiliano Allegri held a press conference ahead of Napoli’s match at San Siro, and started with the team’s defeat to Como:
“It’s a shame that we lost at home, but it’s just the beginning and we need to maintain a sense of balance. Of course, you feel gutted when you lose, but if you look at our performance, there are things we did well. We made some technical errors, but the game still could’ve gone differently.
“Right now, we must take it one step at a time and improve physically because the Champions League starts next week.
“We have an important and difficult match on Saturday at San Siro, in a wonderful stadium and against the favourites to win the league title. We need to be more focused than we were last Sunday, without giving an inch or any distractions. However, we are definitely growing and the players will be much more focused.
“Their athletic condition is improving and I’m satisfied with the group work. Of course, a team’s results affect one’s overall judgment, but we mustn’t pay attention to these things and instead just think about our own journey.
“I always say that these showdowns are meant to be played. Then there are other matches throughout the season that you just have to win. Tomorrow we will play and we’ll try to do our best, conscious that we are prepared, especially at a technical level."
On Scott McTominay and Giovane:
“Throughout a season there are inevitably injuries. We made this decision regarding both surgeries together with the two players since after the international break we will have an intense and crucial series of Serie A and Champions League games to play, and that’s when we’ll need our players to give it their all.
“I’m happy with the squad the club has provided. We just need to work as best we can and take it one step at a time because the season is still very long.”
