La maison du vent by Cameroonian director Auguste Bernard Kouemo Yanghu, a film on the loneliness of those who remain, won the Opera Prima Leone del Futuro Luigi De Laurentiis Award, which has reached its 30th edition and was given this year by the jury chaired by Carolina Cavalli.
Gabriella Buontempo, film producer and president of the Fondazione Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, handed the award created by Aurelio De Laurentiis in memory of his father Luigi, film producer and publisher, who passed away in 1992.
The award has been given as part of the Venice International Film Festival since 1996 for the best debut film presented in one of the selections of the festival.
The Leone del Futuro award also comes with a prize of 100,000 US dollars every year, a sum allocated by Aurelio De Laurentiis’s Filmauro, with the amount split equally between director and producer. As part of the official awards of the festival, this award is the only one that also includes a cash prize.
La maison du vent also won the Special Jury Award.
