Francesco Calzona felt his team was too wasteful in the 1-1 draw away to Cagliari on Sunday afternoon.
“We had a mental block. That’s the main problem. We were too wasteful today and I think there’s a mental problem.
“The block is only psychological because the lads are in good shape physically and they’ve shown that today. We certainly got our play going again out there.
“We should’ve managed the ball better, which is where their goal stemmed from. You need to read the play well because it was a long ball that was quite preventable. That sort of thing makes me angry. We had the chances to double our lead, but went for the wrong option.
“The lads are committed. They want to give their all. I can see so much intensity in terms of their application but we need to restore a feeling of calmness. The positive side is our structure. We were well set up and got our game going. We have to build on the good things that I saw in the second half. We need to limit our mistakes.
“Fourth place is far away and we’re aware of that, but as long as it’s mathematically possible, we’ll need to give our all and try to go as far as possible. Then there’s the Champions League, so we want to get through to the next round. Now we need to focus on Sassuolo and pick ourselves back up as soon as possible.”
