The Azzurri fall to defeat in Matchday 3 at the Philips Stadion

Napoli lost to PSV on Matchday 3 in the 2025/26 Champions League. The Azzurri opened the scoring with a header from Scott McTominay before PSV responded, equalising with an own goal from Alessandro Buongiorno and then taking the lead at the end of the half through Ismael Saibari. In the second half Dennis Man scored twice to make it 4-1, before McTominay pulled a goal back to make it 4-2. Ricardo Pepi and Couhaib Driouech also got on the scoresheet to see the hosts win 6-2.

Antonio Conte gave his thoughts on the defeat:

"We’re really disappointed. These situations don't happen by chance - we have to take lessons from this evening.

"Overall we put in a good first half performance, but then we had some fatal lapses in concentration - mistakes like these get punished.

"This season we’ve got a lot of matches and we have a lot of work to do in order to raise the standards of the entire squad. I've already said that it will be a difficult season, but we mustn't despair because we’ve still got a long way to go. We must be patient to rediscover last year's solidity and chemistry."

Giovanni Di Lorenzo expressed his disappointment:

"We're incredibly disappointed - we're upset and really down. Our fans don't deserve defeats like this, and we're deeply disheartened.

"It was a night where everything went wrong. We were too fragile. We need to analyse and understand what went wrong.

"We talked among ourselves in the dressing room and these discussions will continue. We must bounce back right away because we’ve got another game in a few days. We must offer the best possible response.”
