The Napoli coach spoke during the Champions League press conference

“Tomorrow we will give it our all, without worrying about the maths, but rather by trying to win.” This is what Antonio Conte said ahead of the Champions League match against Benfica. “We know how important this match is, but every game is crucial in the Champions League. We will be 100% focused, although we know that we’ll have to recover a bit, considering all the games we have.

“Benfica have a great coach and I’m happy we’re up against him and his team. I don’t need to explain all the great things [Jose] Mourinho has done in his extraordinary career.

“We’ve certainly gained confidence and enthusiasm thanks to our last few matches and the spirit we’ve been showing on the pitch. We do have some absences, but we know that we can be competitive in every game.

“They have three points and will aim at winning. We will be brave in this match; we won’t overcomplicate things. We will play as Napoli to move up in the table.

“It will be an open game, and may the best team win. This team has players who are growing, players who have arrived this year. There is a growing sense of responsibility among all players.

“There’s been an evolution both at a mental and technical level. This is a very positive attitude that must not be taken for granted.

“We are very united as a team and are becoming more and more compact. Having collected these wins was anything but guaranteed. We responded well in a tough period and now we are reaping the rewards of our work.

“We are also embracing a healthy madness as we try to win every match. We are united, have the same goals and tomorrow we will seek to deliver a solid performance to continue our Champions League journey as far as we can.”
