Giovanni Di Lorenzo could hardly contain his joy after skippering the side to a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Monza at the Stadio Maradona on Sunday.
“It was an incredible feeling to lead the team out at the Stadio Maradona for the first time,” the Italy defender began.
"This is an evening I'll never forget, especially as we capped it off with a big win that got the fans all fired up.”
The 29-year-old went on to applaud the all-round team display that saw the Azzurri run away with the Week 2 fixture courtesy of a goal in each half by new boy Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and injury-time efforts by Victor Osimhen and Kim Min Jae.
“We defenders try to get forward and support attacks as best we can, although we have so many incredible attacking players.
“Kvara is showing everyone what a talent he is and we're all happy he's settling in so well.
“We've got quality throughout the squad. It's the start of a new cycle and we want to show what we can do game after game.”
