Eljif Elmas was in buoyant mood following the 2-0 victory away to Sassuolo on Friday evening in Serie A.
“We’re playing well and we’re showing we can play spectacular football and also battle hard.
“We were 2-0 up here last year and got pegged back to draw, so we knew all about the quality and strengths of Sassuolo. We knew we’d need to run hard and dig in until the end to win the game.”
You’re 18 points clear now. Is that word in your heads?
“We’re just thinking about each game as it comes without looking too far ahead. That’s what we’ve done so far and we’ll keep doing that. This is such an important win. We’re thrilled and these three points on the board give us more confidence and strength.
“I’m very happy with my performance. I hope to have repaid the coach for the faith that he showed in me by starting me. I’m doing really well and feel in good shape, so I’m just trying to help the team and put myself at my team-mates’ disposal.”
