Rudi Garcia was pleased as much with the manner of Napoli's victory over Salernitana as the result itself after watching his side secure a solid 2-0 win at the Stadio Arechi.
"We wanted to get off to a strong start so that we could control things from the beginning,” the coach began after the final whistle. “We got the opener after 15 minutes and had chances to add more in the first half.
“We need to improve mentally after taking the lead but with our rapid ball circulation and possession we were always in control of proceedings.
“The derby is always a bit different and difficult to win. We needed three points today and we got them deservedly.”
Garcia then offered praise for goalscorers Giacomo Raspadoria and Eljif Elmas.
"As soon as I arrived at the club, I thought Raspa was a fantastic talent. I have a lot of belief in him. He's got technique, physical ability, he can strike the ball with both feet and link up play very well. He has lots of qualities and that's why he's not only scoring but producing brilliant performances.
“I'm happy for Eljif because he works really hard. He came off the bench with the bit between his teeth and scored an important goal for us.”
The coach ended with his thoughts on the Azzurri's formation.
"I think 4-3-3 suits our team but we can change it as well depending on what we need. I've said since day one that I want us to have various tactical solutions.
“We need different weapons and different resources and we have the squad here to do that over the course of the season.
“Now we must stay on this path. We want to beat Union on Wednesday to achieve our goal of qualifying for the knockout stage of the Champions League, then we can focus on the league again.”
