Cristiano Giuntoli spoke in a press conference alongside head coach Luciano Spalletti on Saturday. Napoli’s sporting director cleared up the situation regarding the futures of Kalidou Koulibaly, Fabian Ruiz and Dries Mertens.
“We haven’t received any official offers from any clubs and I won’t deny that we’re speaking to Kalidou every day. The club president has offered him an annual salary of €6 million over five years and a possible role in the future as a club director. It’s a very generous offer which is effectively double what he was earning before if we consider the circumstances.
“We have a great relationship with Fabian and want to keep him here. No offers have come in for him by the way. We’re waiting for possible offers before making one ourselves. [Aurelio] De Laurentiis made Mertens a sizable offer for €2.5 net, but it wasn’t accepted.
“We’ve reached an agreement with [Alex] Meret, who’ll be our goalkeeper for the coming years. We also wanted to keep [David] Ospina but he has reached the end of his contract and wanted to make a different choice.
“As for the rest of the squad, our wish is to keep everyone who’s under contract because we’re in love with our players and we’d like them to stay. We’re thrilled with the squad from last year and if nobody asks to leave, we’re happy to carry on with the group as it is.”
Have any offers come in for [Victor] Osimhen?
“No, no real offers. It’s just phone calls and rumours. Osimhen is under contract for another three years and any possible offer would have to be exceptional for any negotiations to begin.
“I’d like to take this opportunity the thank the players who are on the way out: Ospina, [Kevin] Malcuit, [Lorenzo] Insigne, [Faouzi] Ghoulam and [Dries] Mertens at the moment. They’ve all played key roles in this team.”
