The De Laurentiis family, together with the Napoli management and footballers – recently crowned winners of this year’s league title - had an audience with His Holiness Pope Leo XIV on Tuesday morning, in the Clementine Hall of the Apostolic Palace of the Holy See.

During the meeting, Aurelio De Laurentiis told the Holy Father that the club would like to work with the Holy See, through the Dicastery of Culture and Education, on a project that supports the schooling of children from the poorest countries in the world. He also told the Pope he is greatly concerned about hundreds of millions of children being unable to go to school. De Laurentiis’ goal is to create a permanent point of contact with the Holy See to work on projects that include the funding of schooling initiatives.

The words of Pope Leo XIV were very evocative and touching: “Dear friends, welcome! And congratulations on winning the league title! This is a great celebration for the city of Naples and I would like to share my thoughts with you on this. Winning the league title is an achievement that is reached after a long process, where what matters most is not a single accomplishment at a particular moment, or the outstanding performance of a great player. A league title is won by a team, and when I say team, I mean the players, the coach and the entire staff, as well as the club. Thank you for coming here. And congratulations once again! May the Lord bless all of you and your families. Good luck with everything!”

The Napoli delegation was also joined by executives of Filmauro, whose president is De Laurentiis.
