Genoa v Napoli preview

Genoa and Napoli have faced off at the Stadio Marassi 60 times before. Genoa have won 21 (most recently 2-1 in Serie A 2020/21), there have been 21 draws (2-2 in Serie A 2023/24) and Napoli have triumphed 18 times (the last one a 2-1 victory in Serie A 2024/25).

The Azzurri have lost to Genoa just once since the 2012/13 season (2-1 in 2020/21), winning 16 and drawing eight in that time – all in Serie A – with 48 goals scored and 21 conceded..

Both teams have scored at least once on each of the last seven occasions this fixture has been played: 10 for the hosts and 14 for Napoli.

Five of Napoli's last six victories over Genoa at the Stadio Ferraris have all been by the same 2-1 scoreline.

Of current Genoa and Napoli players, the top scorer in all games (home and away) between these two sides is Matteo Politano, with three goals.

Genoa and Napoli met in Serie B on 10 June 2007: the game finished 0-0, which secured Genoa promotion to the top flight. That was the only time no play-offs were necessary in Serie B as Genoa finished 10 points ahead of fourth-placed Piacenza.

Only Fiorentina (8) have conceded more goals than Genoa (7) in the first 15 minutes of the second half in Serie A this season.

Napoli have the scored the joint fewest goals from substitutes in the current campaign – just one, the same as Udinese and Parma.

Daniele De Rossi and Antonio Conte are facing off as coaches for the first time. They met on the pitch only once: a 4-0 win for Roma over Juventus in Serie A on 8 February 2004.

Vitinha's goal against Lazio was his third of the season – his best return since he has been playing in Italy. In the past two seasons (both with Genoa) he scored two.

Ruslan Malinovskyi has collected eight yellow cards so far this term, more than any other player in Serie A except Marin Pongracic (also eight).

Miguel Gutierrez notched his first goal for Napoli against Fiorentina last weekend. The Spanish full-back had scored since 2 November 2024: Girona 4-3 Leganes in La Liga.

Antonio Vergara is on a roll: he bagged his first Serie A goal for Napoli against Fiorentina just a few days after opening his account for the club against Chelsea in the Champions League.
