There have been 46 competitive matches between the two teams in Naples. The record stands at 29 wins for Napoli (the latest was a 1-0 win in Serie A on 30 August), 12 draws (most recently a 3-3 draw in the 2014/15 Serie A season) and five wins for Cagliari (their latest one ended 0-1 in the 2019/20 Serie A season).
The winning team will advance to the quarter-finals against the winner between Fiorentina and Como, with the match scheduled for January 2026.
The only competitive match played at the Maradona last season was the one that secured Napoli’s league title win: it was the final matchday of the 2024/25 Serie A season, on 23 May. It ended with a 2-0 win for Napoli thanks to the goals from Scott McTominay and Romelu Lukaku.

Napoli have already won a match against Cagliari at the Maradona this year: 1-0 at the start of the new season on 30 August, thanks to the decisive goal from Andre Frank Anguissa during stoppage time.
Cagliari’s most recent goal against Napoli was scored by former Napoli player Leonardo Pavoletti on 16 December 2023: on that occasion, the Azzurri won 2-1.

Cagliari advanced past the first two rounds of the 2025/26 Coppa Italia, after winning against Virtus Entella (1-1 after 90 minutes, and then a 5-4 win in the penalty shootout) and then Frosinone (4-1), with both matches being played at the Stadio Unipol Domus. Cagliari’s five goals were scored by Gennaro Borrelli, Nicolo Cavuoti, Mattia Felici, Gianluca Gaetano and Roberto Piccoli.
This will be the second competitive encounter between Antonio Conte and Fabio Pisacane, following the Serie A match back in August, which Conte’s team won 1-0.
