Match Preview | Napoli v Pisa

Previous encounters

Napoli and Pisa will be facing off at the Stadio Maradona tomorrow night at 20:45 on matchday four of the 2025/26 season.

The two teams have played against each other 14 times so far in Naples, with 10 wins for Napoli, three draws and one win for Pisa. Their last match dates back to August 2007. In that Coppa Italia match, Edoardo Reja’s Napoli won the match 3-1 in extra time, thanks to a hat-trick by Ezequiel Lavezzi, after they had conceded a goal by Vitali Kutuzov.

Pisa won a Serie A match 1-0 at the Maradona in January 1986. Klaus Berggreen scored the goal that secured the victory for Pisa. The coaches were Ottavio Bianchi for Napoli and Vincenzo Guerini for Pisa.

Match analysis

Napoli had not won the first three matches of a Serie A season since the 2021/22 season: that year the Azzurri had collected nine points, tied with Roma and Milan.
After three matchdays Napoli have the best defence in Serie A, together with Roma (they have conceded one goal each).

Pisa players have yet to score a goal this season: the only goal Pisa have scored so far was Isak Hien’s own goal at Bergamo on matchday one.
Pisa have not won a match in Serie A in 12,552 days. Their last win dates back to 12 May 1991, Pisa v Bari 1-0.

Among this year’s twenty Serie A coaches, Antonio Conte is the one with the highest point average in Italian professional leagues: 2.06. Behind him on this list is Massimiliano Allegri (1.87) and Fabio Grosso (1.72).

In September, Alberto Gilardino’s teams have had a 0.90-point average, with four wins, six draws and 10 losses in 20 matches in Italian football league matches.
This will be the first match between Antonio Conte and Alberto Gilardino.

ATTACK AND DEFENCE - Matchday four of the 2025/26 Serie A season will be between Napoli, the team with the highest number of shots on target (with an average of six) and Pisa, the fourth team that conceded the most (Pisa, 14.3 per match). The latter have yet to score a goal (except for the own goal by Hien in their 1-1 match against Atalanta). They are also in nineteenth place in terms of successful passes (a 267.7 average) and seventeenth place when it comes to plays in the opponent’s box (12.3 average). However, Pisa’s defence has some good numbers: Gilardino’s team have won more duels on average than any other club so far, with an average of 48, and they are the seventh best team in terms of winning back possession, 51.3 per match. When they are out of possession, Napoli too have good numbers, as they are the team that have conceded the fewest goals so far (one, tied with Roma), as a consequence of their sixth place when it comes to shots conceded (10.3 average) and fifth of plays in the opponent’s box (22.3 average).

The match will be officiated by Valerio Crezzini.
