The Azzurri triumph at Cetilar Arena
Napoli won against Pisa and have mathematically qualified for next season’s Champions League. The Azzurri took the lead in the 21st minute through Scott McTominay, who wrong-footed the keeper with a right-footed shot into the far corner: this was Scott’s 14th goal of the season. A few minutes later, Amir Rrahmani made it 2-0 with a great header. As the game was drawing to an end, Rasmus Hojlund sealed the deal with a third goal for Napoli. Thanks to this win, the Azzurri have qualified for the Champions League for the tenth time (along with their six Europa League editions) in the past 17 seasons.
Here’s what Antonio Conte had to say about his team’s performance:
“I want to congratulate the team on winning a very important game and reaching the prestigious goal of qualifying for the Champions League.
“The team did a great job reaching this objective after such a difficult season, despite our injuries and other obstacles along the way. These players have always given it their all for this shirt and I want to dedicate this achievement to our fans, because they have always been by our side.
“Today we’re celebrating our qualification for the Champions League, but we still have another objective to reach, namely second place in the league, which would be another major success, in light of our last two seasons.”
Team captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo was extremely happy and said:
“We’re happy that we’ve qualified for the Champions League. It wasn’t easy and together with the coach, we’ve proved that we’re a good team.
“Over the past two years, we’ve won one league title, one Italian Super Cup and we’ve made it to the Champions League. These are all excellent results and I’m sure that in the future we’ll be more and more competitive and ready to take on any top team.”
