Walter Mazzarri is confident his team have the necessary drive and commitment to turn things around despite results being hard to come by at the moment.
“Things aren't going our way in this period,” he began after the 1-1 draw against Genoa.
“We have to get our heads down and keep working away to get out of this rut.
“You can't fault the lads' commitment. They're all running and giving their all but we're obviously not able to turn that into consistent performances.
“On the first mistake or distraction we get punished and concede. When you're playing a team that get so many men behind the ball it's hard to find openings.
“I'm sorry for the fans. If we managed to get a draw today, it's partly thanks to their constant support. They deserve to win every game. We'd like to be able to always make them happy.
“As I said, the lads are doing everything possible to find consistency and climb back up the table. We're not there at the moment but it's not through want of trying. Our final onslaught today shows how much this club means to them and how determined they are to get out of this so-so spell.”
Barcelona will be the next team to visit the Maradona, on Wednesday.
“It'll be a great game. Barcelona certainly won't come here to defend. Hopefully [Victor] Osimhen will be able to play because the doctors say his condition isn't great. We're hoping to get him fit for Wednesday.”
