“Keeping a clean sheet was important. Our aim was obviously to qualify, which we deservedly achieved." Walter Mazzarri gave his analysis on Napoli’s 2-0 win over Braga, which secured their place in the Champions League last 16.
“In the pre-match press conference I spoke about playing with balance and I think this evening we approached the game with the right level of compactness. We were focused and snuffed out attacks. We’re improving and we want to reach our potential as soon as possible.
“It’s clear that while we played well this evening we weren’t flawless. However, our main aim was making the last 16 and that’s what we’ve done.
“I’m happy and confident that this team will soon be able to play to our full potential. My role is to try and make the lads understand what being Serie A champions is all about and help alleviate the pressure which comes with being title holders.
“I want to keep playing with our current system. My preferred formation is 4-3-3 – with the right players I think it’s the best approach.
“We’ve now got another game in which we’ll need to try to secure the three points, against Cagliari. It’ll be a chance to consolidate our progress. We’re heartened by this result and go away with safe in the knowledge that this Napoli side can still do the business on this stage.”
