Napoli secured a 2-1 win over Verona on Sunday afternoon. Coach Walter Mazzarri was particularly impressed with how well his team responded.
“It was a well-fought game, but we deserved to win. We should’ve been the first to score. We dominated but could’ve managed it a bit better and converted some more of our chances.
“It got difficult to bring it back, being 1-0 down after all of those chances and the energy we used up. But we never gave in. That’s the attitude I want from my team. That mentality that doesn’t let us quit. As long as there’s time left on the clock, we believe we can win.
“The subs we made in the second half were very important today. We put on fresh legs. I already had ideas about how I could change the game and I have to say we made the right choices.
“It was hard on the side-line but when you win like this, it makes it worth it. “[Kvara] is a champion and he really showed that last year. He’s even better physically now. The whole team are getting fitter and scoring really gives you a lot of belief. I’m trying to push him further up and move him into the middle so they don’t mark him too tightly. I’m happy with his performance and with that stunning goal.”
