The goalkeeper’s first press conference in Castel di Sangro
“I know playing for Napoli is going to be a good challenge, but I am not worried. I don’t feel any pressure; I am just very happy to play for this team.” Vanja Milinkovic-Savic held his first press conference as a Napoli player in Abruzzo.
“Napoli had been interested in signing me since March. I am very proud that I am part of the team that won the Scudetto.”
How have you found the environment over the past few days?
“I have immediately felt welcome because I met a wonderful, close-knit group. I also look forward to playing in the Champions League because I never have before and it will be very stimulating.”
What has Conte asked you to do, also based on your specific attributes?
“So far [Antonio] Conte has asked me to work hard, like everyone else. Of course, when you are called up by such an important coach it is hard to say no. I realise that playing for a club that aims to be at the top of the table is different, because throughout the 90 minutes of a match there may be few shots to save, so you need to stay focused and give confidence to your team-mates, also when the other team gets a single chance to score.”
“I do not consider myself to be the best or the second best. I have come here to make my contribution to the team; then the coach is the one who will make the final decision. I am very happy to get to work with Alex [Meret], who is a great goalkeeper. I do not feel any particular pressure; I am just very happy I will get to play for this team.”
