In what was Napoli’s first game since claiming Scudetto glory Luciano Spalletti’s men were overcome 2-0 by hosts Monza.
In what felt like an end-of-season fixture, Napoli dominated but were unable to take their chances, the best of which fell to Mathias Olivera and Piotr Zielinski. Monza added another memorable note by beating the recently crowned Serie A champions through goals by Dany Mota and Andrea Petanga, neither of whom celebrated due to their links with Napoli.
Next up for Spalletti’s side is Inter next weekend followed by two more fixtures, opportunities to end the season on a high.
