Victor Osimhen says Napoli were determined to set the record straight against Empoli after losing the same fixture in Tuscany last season
The Nigerian was speaking after scoring the Azzurri's second in a 2-0 win at the Stadio Castellani.
"We remembered losing to Empoli here last year and we were 100% focused on making up for that and winning today.”
Luciano Spalletti commented that his Napoli side have the same fighter's mask as Osimhen.
"I'm happy the coach believes in me but it's thanks to my team-mates because we're a team and we're showing how competitive we are time after time. It was very difficult to come here and win because Empoli are an excellent side.
"Spalletti is always pushing me to be the best I can. He's a fantastic coach and very demanding. He wants every player to reach their full potential. We're following his instructions and the results and the football we're playing are extraordinary."
A ninth consecutive Serie A goal takes Victor's tally to 21 from 25 games in all competitions this term, drawing glowing praise from the likes of Chelsea and Ivory Coast legend Didier Drogba.
"This is definitely the best season of my career. I feel great mentally and physically and I hope to carry on like this to achieve even greater things.
"I'm thrilled about Drogba because he's my idol. When I saw he was following me and admiring me on social media it was just an amazing feeling.”
