Matteo Politano highlighted what Wednesday's victory over Sassuolo win means for team morale after playing a pivotal role in the 6-1 drubbing at Mapei Stadium.
The Italian winger provided two first-half assists for Victor Osimhen to help the Azzurri turn around an early 1-0 deficit and lead 3-1 at the break.
“This is a massive win for us,” Politano commented after the match. “We showed the spirit we need to climb up the table.
"We all knew how important it was to get three points tonight and we got them deservedly. We needed a big performance mentally too to restore our self-belief.
“Sometimes when results aren't coming for you, subconsciously you lose a bit of confidence in your ability, but we know perfectly well what we're capable of. Now we need to keep up this mentality because there's a long way to go.
“[Francesco] Calzona is pushing us and reassuring us at the same time. Some of us have known him for years. We know how he works and we're totally on board with his ideas.”
