“The Italian Super Cup is an important trophy which gets us fired up. We need to show what we’re about, staying humble and displaying great team spirit.” Giovanni Simeone was at Napoli’s pre-match press conference with coach Walter Mazzarri ahead of their Super Cup semi-final against Fiorentina in Riyadh.
“We’re really motivated for this game. We’re Serie A title holders and we’re keen to give our all. We’re not the favourites – the tie is very much open. However, we’ll go out there with a lot of positive energy.
“Fiorentina play good football and have often caused us issues. We’ll need to try to deny them of possession. We’ll need to put in a top performance, showing mental fortitude, belief and focus.
How much would it mean to be Napoli’s matchwinner?
“First and foremost I hope that I can play and help the lads, ideally getting a goal and putting in a good performance. I try to adapt to whatever is asked of me for the benefit of the team. What matters is Napoli getting a positive result.”
What have been the positives of this period in Riyadh?
“Training camps are a chance to spend a lot of time together every day. It’s probably helped bring us together, but what counts is what happens on the pitch. We need to do the business and get a win tomorrow.”
