Giovanni Simeone was the man of the moment on Sunday evening at the Stadio Maradona when he curled a stunning strike into the top corner to beat Roma with just five minutes left on the clock. The Argentine was overcome with emotions after the final whistle.
“It’s incredible. I still have the emotions running through me from the goal,” he explained. “I actually had a stomach ache beforehand and didn’t feel so well, but when I went on the pitch, I just gave everything.
“We’re a real team. We played with a very high tempo tonight and despite Roma’s equaliser, we never let up on the pitch.
“Roma showed they’re a strong side and we’ve picked up three crucial points. We’ll keep fighting. We have huge desire to show what Napoli are all about.
“The coach showed his faith in me. I went on full of enthusiasm. The team kept attacking throughout. The ball came to me, I turned and went for goal. It was fantastic. Just thinking about it now is giving me goosebumps.”
