Luciano Spalletti was left cooing after Napoli produced an impressive 5-1 demolition of Juventus on Friday night.
“We played superbly in what was a fabulous atmosphere – it was a wonderful evening,” he began. This team has rekindled an immense love between the club and the fans and the city.
“I have a group of players who, when they perform to their full potential as they did tonight, are capable of aiming very high indeed.”
“We stayed focused even after they scored their goal. We dealt with their response, kept our heads and started playing our football again.
“We prepared for the game in a way that would allow us to express our ability. We're not the sort of team that looks to be successful by winning individual duels and we saw that tonight.
“The Napoli DNA is to keep the ball and move it around quickly. We're very good at that and I think our mentality was clearly on display.
“We must always set out to take the game to the opposition because that's what we're good at. We aren't afraid and we don't shy away from our strategy. The aim is to occupy the opposition half confidently and constantly.”
Asked if this result is a message to the rest of the league, Spalletti replied: “I think it's a message to ourselves because sometimes you don't realise how good you are. Juventus are a colossal team who came into this on the back of an impressive run and we showed this evening we're a top team ourselves.”
