Luciano Spalletti held an emotional news conference before Napoli's final match of the season against Sampdoria – his last in charge of the Azzurri.
"I want to thank everyone I've met in these two years,” he began.
“I want to thank an extraordinary group, a city born passionate, our fans around the world and all the children who have hugged me.
"I thank the president, the club and everyone who works for Napoli. The last thing I want is any division between me and the president. It's not one or the other because we worked together for the good of Napoli and for a triumph that belongs to everyone.
"[Aurelio] De Laurentiis has taken responsibilities that other presidents don't take. We sorted out a lot of situations, doing in two years what usually takes four years. I've learnt to be more businesslike with him and he's become more of a coach with me.”
If you had to give one piece of advice to the next Napoli coach, what would it be?
“I don't have the possibility to give advice. If anything, advice is something you ask for.”
What will you take away with you from this Scudetto triumph?
"I would like to have things to take away. I told the team that if we managed to pull off this incredible achievement, they would see the city explode with joy. But when we won the Scudetto, I realised that the reality was even better than what I had imagined. No one could have imagined how much joy it would bring. I think I've always been a bit Neapolitan but now I'm completely Neapolitan.”
Is there a question you'd like to be asked today?
“I always prepare a few answers when I have a press conference,. I've always directed the ideas where I wanted them. I was taught that it's always best to think about the type of questions that will be asked.”
After which game did you realise you would win the Scudetto?
“There wasn't just one game but lots. The main thing is having the same mentality throughout the season. This team has enthusiasm, quality and mental strength – something they're still showing today even after achieving our target.
“This team will have a great future because of the values within the group. There's room for Napoli to become an even better team.”
