Luciano Spalletti was thrilled with Napoli’s 2-1 victory in Bergamo over Atalanta, which he described as “three important points. We really played the Napoli way.
“Atalanta turned in a great performance, but we were ourselves and that’s a key element of our display and the strength that we needed to show out there in order to get the victory.
“Winning here at this stadium in such an intimidating atmosphere is testament to the quality that the lads are showing regularly, while displaying the right balance on the pitch and precision in our passing.
“I can only stress how much Atalanta put together sustained attacks over long periods and it’s also normal to be caught on the counter because they have the physicality and good organisation. We did very well in our defensive line. Kim and Juan Jesus did some incredible ball recoveries when there was space in behind.
“[Elif] Elmas has combined quality and physicality in an exceptional way. We have a complete squad filled with important players. When you go across the world and play in so many games, if you don’t have a 20- or 22-man squad, all of whom you can rely on, you can’t hack it at this level.
“This is such an important win. I’m thrilled for the lads and what they’re doing at the moment. We’re working in an intense and sensible way, which I think is the right direction to be going in.”
