Giovanni Simeone scored the opener for the Azzurri on Wednesday evening in their Champions League match against Real Madrid. Despite being happy with his goal, the Napoli forward shared how he felt about the final 4-2 result.
“It’s always great scoring with Napoli and especially in Madrid. It’s bittersweet because of the result. We’re disappointed because we could’ve won.
“We started off well. We kept our defensive shape well and then put attacks together when there was space. It was a good game. We can’t be too harsh on ourselves for our overall performance, even though there were times we struggled with their counter-attacks.
“I’m happy I’ve got the coach’s trust. When he told me I’d be starting, I was overwhelmed with emotion.
“I know I can give a lot to this squad and I know we’re a solid group. Now we have to give it our all in Serie A and then we can concentrate on qualifying for the Champions League. We believe we can reach some big heights.”
